Introduction:

Promise Keepers Is:

Promise Keepers (PK) is a Christian outreach to men. Through stadium conferences, educational seminars, resource materials, and local churches, PK encourages men to live godly lives and to keep seven basic promises of commitment to God, their families, and fellow man. Promise Keepers seeks to unite Christian men of all races, denominations, ages, cultures, and socio-economic groups, believing that accountable relationships among men are critical in helping one another become promise keepers in their relationships with God, their wives, their children, and each other.

Promise Keepers Is Not:

Promise Keepers is not merely a series of stadium events, but rather, a year-round outreach to men through the local church. PK is not a membership or dues-paying organization, but is part of a larger movement of Christian men becoming more active throughout their local churches. Furthermore, PK is not a political or partisan organization, nor is it affiliated with any denomination. Finally, Promise Keepers does not promote a self-help or self-improvement philosophy, but encourages men to commit every aspect of their lives to Jesus Christ.

Organization/Structure:

Promise Keepers is a not-for-profit, 501(C)3 organization. The organization is governed by a 16-member board of directors and operates under the daily direction of CEO Bill McCartney, President Randy Phillips, and Chief Operating Officer Thomas Fortson. The organization is headquartered in Denver, CO., and employs a full-time staff of 452.

State Offices & International Affiliations:

Promise Keepers operates locally through 36 regional offices serving all 50 states. Internationally, Promise Keepers also operates independently in Australia, New Zealand, and Canada.

PROMISE KEEPERS BACKGROUND

How We Started

On March 20, 1990, Bill McCartney (then University of Colorado head football coach) and his friend Dave Wardell, Ph.D., were on a three-hour car ride to a Fellowship of Christian Athletes meeting, when they first discussed the idea of filling a stadium with Christian men. Later that year, 72 men began to pray and fast about the concept of thousands of men coming together for the purpose of Christian discipleship. In July, 1991, 4,200 men gathered for the first Promise Keepers conference at the University of Colorado basketball arena. Since then, more than 2 million men have attended Promise Keepers (PK) stadium conferences.

Mission Statement

Promise Keepers is a Christ-centered ministry dedicated to uniting men through vital relationships to become godly influences in their world.

Local Small Groups

Across the country and around the world, thousands of small groups of 5-10 men gather on a regular basis for Bible study and personal accountability. In 1996, 19,590 local Promise Keepers volunteers served as liaisons between these groups and PK, providing leadership and materials to these groups.

Serve The City

The Serve the City project is a "hands-on" ministry of Promise Keepers to the inner city. Through community service tasks such as Bible distribution, church repairs, park beautification, and serving assistance in soup kitchens, PK men work to impact their communities, build racial and denominational unity, and pursue vital relationships.

Resource Materials

Promise Keepers also develops and provides numerous resources for personal study and men's groups. These resources include audio/video recordings, radio programs, books, study guides, worship tapes, and Promise Keepers newsletters.

Support For Pastors

Finally, Promise Keepers actively builds support for clergy by motivating and encouraging laymen to actively support the mission of their church and to pray for and support their pastor(s).

Statement of Faith

1. We believe that there is one God eternally existing in three persons: The Father, The Son, and The Holy Spirit.

2. We believe that the Bible is God's written revelation to man and that it is verbally inspired, authoritative, and without error in the original manuscripts.

3. We believe in the deity of Jesus Christ, His virgin birth, sinless life, miracles, death on the cross to provide for our redemption, bodily resurrection and ascension into heaven, present ministry of intercession for us, and His return to earth in power and glory.

4. We believe in the personality and deity of the Holy Spirit, that He performs the miracle of new birth in unbelievers and indwells believers, enabling them to live godly lives.

5. We believe that man was created in the image of God, but because of sin, was alienated from God. Only through faith, trusting in Christ alone for salvation which was made possible by His death and resurrection, can that alienation be removed.

Commitment to Financial Integrity

Promise Keepers is dedicated to maintaining financial integrity at all times and makes its annual financial statements available to anyone requesting them. Promise Keepers

Promise Keepers has made itself accountable to the Evangelical Council for Financial Accountability (ECFA) and complies with its standards and guidelines, including submission to an annual financial audit, which is conducted by Capin, Crouse & Company.

Promise Keepers is also committed to being faithful stewards of all of its resources, which requires wise planning and careful spending. Finally, consistent with its commitment to supporting the mission of the local church, Promise Keepers encourages men to give to their local church before making any contributions Promise Keepers.
